2006's Best (and Worst) of High Def
If you've taken the Blu-ray or HD DVD plunge and are now looking for content to content you, check out High-Def Digest's 'Best (and Worst) of 2006' list (discussion on Slashdot). Having (so far) enjoyed Grand Prix, King Kong, Ray and The Fast and the Furious: Tokyo Drift on HD DVD, I concur with their 'best of' tastes. And after perusing the 'worst of' 'winners', I was struck by the following thought; if Microsoft had the wisdom to bundle the Xbox 360 HD DVD peripheral with a copy of King Kong (High-Def Digest's 'Best Transfer — New Release' winner), why on earth did Sony bundle (bungle?) the PS3 with 'Talladega Nights: The Ballad of Ricky Bobby', High-Def Digest's "biggest Blu-ray disappointment of the year"?
Followup: for another perspective, here's AVS Forum's tiered lists for Blu-ray and HD DVD. Warning: the AVS Forum folks are very image quality-centric in their perspectives. I'm not necessarily saying they'd put an otherwise horrible movie with great image quality towards the top of the list….but I'm not necessarily saying they wouldn't, either. Consider yourself warned!
