AMD: Business Fundamentals Lead To Strange Bedfellows

Greetings from SIGGRAPH. Believe it or not, there’s an Intel CPU-based Dell system in AMD’s booth, mated to an ATI FireGL graphics board. There’s also an AMD CPU-based system partnered with an NVIDIA Quadro graphics card. But, one month prior to the AMD ‘Barcelona’ quad-core 2 GHz launch, there’s not a Barcelona-based system to be found either on the show floor or in AMD’s private booth, from whence I’ve just come.

Draw your own conclusions, folks. Care to share?

Dear Scunnerous, they also showed AMD CPUs mated with ATI/AMD graphics chips. But that they also had their primary competitors (Intel CPUs, and Nvidia graphics chips) in their booth was pretty mind-blowing, and telling....

So, umm... no workstation-fit ATI chipset to run an AMD CPU? This is getting depressing.
