Cutting the Carbon-Energy Cord: Wind Addendums
December 27, 2006
Following up on my two-week-back feature article, 'Cutting the Carbon-Energy Cord: Is the Answer Blowing In the Wind?', and its website supplements, I've come across a few more data points that I thought might be of interest to you.
- Digg recently showcased the article from the November-December issue of Audubon Magazine that I'd listed in one of my earlier blog posts. The Digg debate was notably mature and informative, albeit abbreviated, for this oft-sophomoric cyber-water cooler!
- The January/February 2007 issue of Sierra Magazine has a similar going-beyond-carbon theme to the Scientific American September, 2006 issue that I showcased in my EDN writeup. Not only does Sierra include a piece by one of my favourite authors, there's also an excellent essay on how improvements in wind turbine design and wind farm placement are minimizing the deaths of bats and birds.
- Finally, just a few days after my writeup was published, Slashdot reported that two large off-shore wind farms in the UK have gotten the go-ahead by the country's government.
