A Killer HDD Deal

February 16, 2006

Qualifier in advance: I have absolutely no financial relationship with either of the two suppliers represented in this deal, nor with the merchant or the deal-posting site. With that said….late last month, I indicated that right now, the most cost-effective HDDs were in the 33 cent-per-GByte price range. Well, a deal that dropped into my RSS feed folder today blows that trend out of the water. Quoting from the Dealnews post:

TigerDirect.com offers the Maxtor MaXLine III 300GB Serial ATA-150 Hard Drive bundled with the Cintre ZDISC SATA Drive Aluminum USB 2.0 Enclosure for $129.99. Mail-in rebates of $10 (for the enclosure) and $50 (for the drive) slash it to $69.99. That's $30 less than our last mention of the hard drive alone. This 7200 rpm hard drive features a 16MB cache. Deal ends February 28.

23 cents per GByte. For a 300 GByte SATA-150 7200 RPM drive, with 16 MByte buffer. And with an enclosure tossed in, to boot. Zoinks! Shipping and sales tax are extra, of course. But still….
