Double Take: Bountiful Benchmark Statistics

This blog post references my article 'Double take: Reassessing x86 CPUs in embedded-system applications' in EDN's April 27, 2006 edition.

As promised, both in print and in companion blog posts in this series, I'm proud to present for your analysis the detailed SiSoftware Sandra benchmark results from my extensive system testing. Each ZIP file archive contains two sets of files; ASCII (.TXT) copy-and-pastes from the Sandra log (as far as I can tell, Sandra doesn't provide the capability to automatically generate report files), and JPEG (.JPG) screen captures from the benchmark utilities' results graphics.

I encourage you to closely peruse both datasets. Regarding the JPEG screen captures, I've carefully chosen comparative systems that, with Sandra 2004, enable you to back-correlate to my prior work and, with Sandra 2005, enable you to judge my results against SiSoftware's measured results for today's high-end, mainstream and low-end PCs. The files linked to in the table entries below range from ~450-750KBytes each in size (highly dependent on the screen resolution of the system used to make the JPEGs!). The ZIPs have similar filenames, as do the files inside them, so before you begin downloading I suggest you create a directory structure akin to the following:
