Spammity Spam

December 4, 2006

As one who's regularly complained in the past about the amount of spam received per day, I got a good chuckle when I read ACM Queue's take on the issue. Enjoy!

Followup: According to the November/December issue of IEEE Internet Computing Magazine, which I just received in the mail, what I (along with probably a lot of you) am experiencing in recent months is geek spam, "email that uses technology-related keywords to both dupe tech-sector employees and pollute their Bayesian filters." So I guess what I earlier feared has indeed come to pass; by painstakingly (or, if you prefer, anal-retentively) training Gmail's spam filter, I've actually increased the amount of valid email mistakenly identified as spam (i.e. 'ham'). Sigh….
