AACS 0wn3d? CyberLink Responds
As followup to Saturday's writeup, CyberLink finally responded earlier today to my several-day-old query and categorically denies that PowerDVD was used to circumvent AACS. This blog post replicates the message I got from them.
If the source of the exposed title keys isn't CyberLink, then who is it? The list of companies that make DVD playback software is pretty short, and InterVideo's PR rep has already sent me a clear message that WinDVD isn't the culprit. Is it ATI (sorry, the graphics division of AMD)? Nero? Nvidia? Sonic? Or….
It's now January 2nd and Muslix64 hasn't yet released the promised v1 of the BackupHDDVD program, or any more details of how he/she obtained title keys. I'm beginning to smell the first whiff of a fraud….clever video editing, perchance? Don't automatically believe everything you see on YouTube, folks; there's a reason why the title of this blog post had a question mark at the end of it!
I'll post any additional news I hear via edits to this post, so bookmark it for future reference.
Followup: Well, BackupHDDVD v1.0 is here….one day late, but who's counting. There are still no keys 'in the wild', so for the moment the impact is restricted to one (still potentially fraudulent) cracker.
