Dark Side Of The Moon

February 20, 2008

Back in late August of last year, I wrote about my early morning lunar eclipse observation experiences. As follow-up, here’s a heads-up of tonight’s full eclipse (more), beginning at a location-dependent ~5:43PM PST and peaking at ~7:26PM PST. This time around, the astronomical festivities will take place at a more reasonable hour of the night…but the forecasted clouds above my geodesic dome will likely thwart my viewing plans.

Those of you in the Pacific Ocean may even see some accompanying fireworks, that is if there’s a bullseye missile strike

Followup: As I suspected, cloud cover is blocking my lunar view. However, courtesy of Google, I found this collection of live webcam images from around the world. Enjoy!

Followup II: Photos, courtesy of MAKE Magazine, if you missed the eclipse.

Followup III: More photos, this time hosted by Wired. Some really beautiful stuff here!
