Enpirion EP53x2Q: Integrated buck converter targets low-power and portable applications

October 30, 2006

Targeting smart phones, personal media players, and mobile gaming platforms, the EP53×2Q integrated dc/dc-buck-converter family operates at a 5-MHz switching frequency, reducing the size of filter components. The devices combine a PWM controller, MOSFET switches, a compensation network, and a power inductor in a 5×4×1.1-mm QFN package. The converter requires two ceramic filter capacitors. A three-pin voltage-select scheme programs the voltage output, allowing a designer to chose one of seven predefined voltages or to use an external divider. Designers can also change the voltage-select pins to implement dynamic-voltage scaling. Available in 500, 600, and 800-mA load currents, the EP53×2Q converters cost $1.50, $1.55, and $1.61, respectively.
