Texas Instruments TPS61081: Converter integrates I/O isolation, high-current switch, power diode

February 22, 2007

Combing a 1.3A current switch, I/O isolation, and a power diode, the 1.2-MHz, high-voltage TPS61081 dc/dc boost converter supports 2.5 to 6V input voltages. With 600-kHz or 1.2-MHz switching frequency, the 27V converter suits use in portable diagnostic systems. The device can survive and protect external components from short circuits on any pin but the input-voltage pin. An integrated isolation MOSFET turns off when the inductor, power MOSFET, or output shorts to ground. Additional features include overcurrent protection, programmable soft-start, overvoltage protection, thermal shutdown, and undervoltage lockout. Available in a 3×3-mm QFN-10 package, the TPS61081 costs $1.75 (1000).
