Silicon Laboratories Si472x: FM-radio transmitter combines a receiver and a transmitter into one chip

Able to receive and FM signal and transmit an FM signal to an FM tuner, the Si472x FM radio transceiver combines the functions of the vendor’s Si470x FM radio receiver with the vendor’s Si471x FM radio transmitter. The 3×3×0.55-mm chip compares to competing devices requiring at least two chips and five times more board space. Features include adjustable seek, soft mute, stereo blend, and an integrated antenna for receiving and transmitting. The Si4721 transceiver provides transmitter and receiver support for the European RDS (Radio Data System) and the US RBDS (Radio Broadcast Data System). The Si4720 costs $5.26 (10,000), the Si4721 costs $6.31 (10,000), and an evaluation board costs $150.
