V-Infinity V78XX-500-SMT: Switching regulator provides alternative to linear regulators

The 96%-efficient, 0.5A V78XX-500-SMT dc-switching-regulator series provides a high-performance alternative to linear regulators. Features include a 4.5 to 28V dc input range; 3.3, 5, 12, and 15V-dc regulated output voltage; 500-mA output current; –40 to +75°C temperature range at 100% load; and 60% load derating at 85°C. The converter provides short-circuit protection, thermal shutdown, 10-mV p-p typical ripple and noise, and a 2 million-hour MTBF. Measuring 15.24×8.5×7 mm, devices in the surface-mount V78XX-500-SMT dc-switching-regulator series cost $8.24 each.
