Miga Motors embeds linear actuator

September 25, 2008

With fully interactive products now the norm, a growing number of embedded designs now include mechanical control circuitry to drive external motors, solenoids, and actuators. The future of this mechatronics progression may be to include the mechanical components directly onto the embedded system’s printed circuit board. As a step in this direction Miga Motor Company has announced their new MigaOne motor, a powerful, but lightweight linear actuator built directly onto a printed circuit board substrate. This new motor is less than 0.1” thick, smaller than a credit card, and produces a 3/8” stroke at 2.5 pound-force (lb-f). This performance is a result of MIGA’s patented technology which uses shape memory alloy (SMA) wire as the driving element. The MigaOne has applications in smart electronic locks, air duct shunts, valves, advanced robotics and a wide range of biomedical equipment. You can watch a video of the MigaOne in action or download application information at the Miga Motors website. The MigaOne motor retails for $39.95 each and is available directly from Miga Motors as well as several online retailers.
