RFID Chip Reunites Dachshund with Owner 5 Years Later

November 24, 2008

This article from Philadelphia’s ABC News affiliate Channel 6 caught my eye. A stray dachshund found in Philadelphia was found by the Animal Rescue League to be microchipped and the RFID chip identified the dog as being owned by some one in New Jersey. The dog, now identified as “Tootsie,” disappeared from its former owner’s home five years ago. The old phone number associated with the chip’s ID didn’t work but a letter brought contact with the owners who are getting their long lost dog back again, today. Stories like these remind us of the good that we can do with the technology at our disposal.
