Sandeep Vij in as MIPS CEO

January 25, 2010

Number two processor IP vendor MIPS Technologies has just announced that Sandeep Vij is stepping into the CEO shoes vacated when John Burgoin retired at the end of 2009. Vij is coming from multicore specialist Cavium but before that, he honed his skills at FPGA powerhouse Xilinx as VP and GM of the company’s high-volume General Products Division. According to the press release, “Vij also pioneered and managed Xilinx’s successful vertical markets businesses by developing high-level intellectual property (IP) solutions for the wired and wireless communications, storage, server, consumer, audio/video/broadcast, industrial, scientific and medical markets.”

That sounds like precisely the kind of experience that MIPS needs against chief rival and industry juggernaut ARM.
