All EDA, All the Time: EDA Bloggers List

June 14, 2008

I attended an EDA Bloggers Birds-of-a-feather meeting at DAC this week. David Lin, VP of Marketing at Denali, helped to organize it along with several other people (reported here). Lin has assembled a Web page with live RSS feeds from all the EDA blogs he could find. The page is here. Unfortunately, it doesn’t include this blog nor does it include Ron Wilson’s EDN blog on Practical Chip Design. Either Lin can’t find us or he’s disqualified us for some reason. (David added some links and RSS feeds over the weekend including this blog.) He does have also has a link to Taken For Granted, the excellent and insightful blog by my Tensilica colleague Grant Martin.

I never said Amdahl's Law wasn't true, it's just true for some specific circumstances. It's clearly not universal. Most products designed today are not single-program machines, they are collections of cooperating programs. Amdahl's Law seems much less applicable in such circumstances, at least to me and to my colleagues.

I can tell already that I''m going to have some fun with the blogging (and I''m going to get myself in trouble). WRT your comments on my first post -- I''ll see your Gustafson''s Law, and raise you John Gustafson himself: "the only people who said that Amdahl''s law wasn''t true were the PR people at Sandia and a couple of managers who should have known better, never the people who did the work." Gustafson was at the ICCAD awards dinner for Amdahl, and is part of the video presentation. I was really surprised at how reasonable he is (not at all what I expected after reading his paper -- which probably got tweaked without his permission). Anyway, it''s good fodder for debate, which I think the industry desperately needs right now.

There is also a list at www.skmurphy.com/blog/2008/05/28/bloggers-covering-electronic-design-automation/ that David used to construct his list of feeds. Your blogs are listed there, as well as some other sites that don't have feeds but are devoted to EDA topics. I enjoyed your talk at the EDA Bloggers BoF at DAC. Sean Murphy www.skmurphy.com/

Dave, Thanks for adding our blogs. I think your page is a real asset to the industry. And yes, a technology evangelist is a marketing role.

Hi Steve, It was great meeting you last week and hearing your perspective as a former editor-in-chief and marketing guy (I assume that's what a technology evangelist is?). And, huge apologies for oversight. It was completely unintentional! The list was entered manually, so there may be other blogs missing as well. I have now updated the page to include both feeds! Thanks, Dave
