I just read about a YouTube viral video that purports to show some popcorn kernels being popped by the output of three cell phones. Yes, that should be ludicrous to anyone who reads EDN, but there are a lot of uneducated people out there who are ready to believe this stuff. Now we know there’s not enough energy output in a cell phone to vaporize the water in a popcorn kernel. Here’s the video that explains the hoax.
It turns out that a Bluetooth headset company was merely trying to get some viral marketing mojo going by scaring entertaining people with this video. The answer’s simple when you know the trick. You decide about what you think of the fun.
