This could be a great investment. I have a small tube amp I built as a kit a couple of years ago. It uses 11MS8's, which are a newish tubes that were originally used in TV vertical deflection circuits. Anyway, when I built the kit, NOS spares cost $4. Now they're closer to $10. Audiophiles pay big money for some tubes, especially "real" 300B's from Western Electric.

Fascinating. Two weeks ago, I was explaining to my 11-year-old nephew how TVs used to fail often, how the repairman would come to your house and replace tubes. I told him how people who were handy would take all the tubes to the drug store (and in my head, I am hearing how xany some of this must sound), described the tube tester, etc. When I was his age, I explained, my Dad came home to find me with the back off the TV set, the interlock bypassed. I was just looking (really) but he expressed considerable displeasure.

That is way cool. Last thing I need is more junk, but you never know when you'll need a couple of hundred 12AX7s!
