OK, fellow SF buffs. Popular Mechanics has ranked the 10 most prophetic SF films of all time. In reverse order, they are:

#10. 2001: A Space Odyssey

#9. Short Circuit

#8. Soylent Green

#7. Blade Runner

#6. The Running Man

#5. Destination Moon

#4. The Truman Show

#3. The Road Warrior (Mad Max 2)

#2. Minority Report

#1. Gattaca

So, did PopMech get it right? Which prophetic SF film do you believe they missed?

Good points Girish, and Star Trek has played many large roles in my life, but the concepts were all layed out in the TV series and the list above is for movies. By universal acclaim, the first Star Trek movie was a dud, and a boring one at that, thus initiating and giving rise to the maxim "All odd-numbered Star Trek movies suck."

In my opinion the number 1 spot should be reserved for Star Trek. So many gadgets we use today have a striking resemblance to the ones we see Kirk, Spock, McCoy and rest of the crew use. The most widely used device is the Tri-corder (aka cell phone).

I have a SF movie that I enjoy that is possibly not the best techncally but the mood it create is outstanding. It is called Outland with a less than perfect Sean Connery. It may not make may top ten lists but it made mine on grit, dirt and a believable story line. Trent
