Is Sony changing its stripes?

January 24, 2005

Last month in “The Sony tax” I discussed how Sony tries to control standards and generate revenue by licensing patents. The trend shows up in places like the Memory Stick where you pay far more for Flash than you do in CompactFlash or SD Card formats. Many of you who commented agree. In “Ken Kutaragi and Sony finally admits to the folly that has been… itself,” Ryan Block of Engadget.com shares similar feelings and expresses hope that Sony has finally seen the error of its ways.
