Diffusion analysts dissect the possibility of a video iPod
In an opinion from The Diffusion Group called “A video iPod: Is apple sauced?,” two of their analysts speculate as to whether Apple might debut a video-centric media player next week. The company is planning some major press announcement next week, and a video player is a possibility, although as the opinion points out Jobs has denied such plans. In the conclusion, these guys hit the nail on the head. The iPod is not distinguishable from other music players without the iTunes music store. So a video iPod makes no sense unless there is a video version of iTunes to back it up. Meanwhile as I covered in “At least Rokr got the music transfer scheme right, but Apple threat looms,” smart consumers would be wary of locking themselves into the Apple DRM despite the ease of iTunes purchases.
