Kyocera joins WindSpring in evaluating DMT on handsets

In a recent EDN story, “Compression technique preserves accessible data elements,” I covered WindSpring’s new DMT (data-miniaturization technology) that can be used to decrease the storage needed for data sets such as maps XML files, or even text documents. The value in DMT centers on the fact that applications can work with compressed elements without first performing a decompression operation. The benefits include both smaller storage space and less RAM for program execution, as well as better use of bandwidth in networks.
