Super camera web site deceives with posted review

May 11, 2005

Back during NAB week, I wrote about a tiny combo video and still camera that I saw at the show and that in fact I placed an order for (see, “Super camera handles, video, still images, and MP3 playback.”) I’ve been a bit nervous about the purchase because the unit was supposed to ship in 10 days but has been a no show until yesterday. How ironic that the camera arrived yesterday at about the same time that Matthew Miller, our Online Executive Editor, pointed out that a comment in my blog noted that the company had posted a review stating that I recommended the camera. Actually, my original post included the passage “I’m not sure that I can say that I recommend it.” My point was that any recommendation would come after I had a chance to review the unit.

Now I’ll still give the camera a fair review – assuming that I can get it back from my son who took it to his multimedia den last night. As for this company Nisis USA, they will hear from our legal department. For starters they aren’t allowed to lift our copyrighted material – they can only point to our site. But to lift and change the text – that’s unethical for sure and there may be a stronger legal term that describes their action.

I bought the camera a few years back at the National Education Association Convention. The few times I've worked with it is seems OK. My problem now is I can't get software to work with VISTA. They sent me a CD that was "VISTA" but it turned out it was the same old XP software with a green label instead of the black one that came with the camera. I can't say crap but it's not easy to use.

i bought this camera a while ago and it is crappy. it takes forever to turn on. besides the fact that you hav to flip the screen out. the buttons r very hard to use especially the little knob. i went to delete a picture and i accidently move the knob to much and deleted all the pictures in my memory. also, the picture quality is very poor. everything is blurry unless u hold it really close and you hav the camera absoultly still. the video quality is not that bad actually. the sound quality is decent on this camera, but its really hard to upload music onto this unit. this camrea is not built for taking still pictures. its only good for taking video. i dont recomend this camrea unless u want a budget camera tat only takes video.

I bought one about 3 years ago. the image quality is pretty low but the sound quality is excellent. It crapped out on me a while back but i called the company, shipped it back and recieved a call from them telling me they were sending me a new unit. It arrived a few days later and has been working great. I've recieved good support from them. My father bought one, and for 99 bucks upgraded his to a new version. Right now i want to load the software on a vista machine, but can't get it to work. I've got a call into the company so i'll see if they call me back. overall it's an ok unit, i wouldn't buy one again but it's not bad. It's not great either.

Here it is Just about a year since I purchased the Supacam or is that SupaSCAM!! You bet'cha. The product doesn't work, shuts down after 5 mins, and then when you call for support. You get the VM or a message that the Box is FULL!! Forget about trying to send an email, they all simply get returned. What is it with this company. I see on the new website, there is a "Shiny New Airplane".... I guess Mr. Labcoat used our money to treat himself to something really nice!!! If I can't have a camera that works, can I at least have a turn in the Sky??? I hate that you seemed so nice, and genuine...What you actually were was a "Ncie Genuine SCAM"!!!! Too Bad, could have spent the money on something better, I mean $328.00 can go a long way for a charity, and there you are sure to get something back!!! Shame on YOU! and to anyone looking to buy.... Maybe a FLIP is better for you!

I picked on up at the Fire and Rescue International Trade Show in Atlanta Georgia back in Aug 07. Same guy in a lab coat was doing his thing. Smooth talked most of us into buying this Supacam. Like most of you, I too wish I had Google this product before buying it. In any case, I went after them to get my money back. After getting a "RMA" return merchandise authorization number, I returned the "junk cam" and before the 30 day return period was up I got most of my money back. They kept 15% for restocking. I'm not done with them yet, because at no time did anyone ever say anything about a "restocking" fee BUT Mr. White Lab Coat did say I would get a "Full Refund". All I can say is spread the new on this cam to everyone. If I ever run across Mr. Lab Coat again, I'll make sure everyone know it's a scam. The should change their company name to "SupaSCAM".

I bought a Supacam DVi for $355.06 at the American Psychological Association convention in San Francisco. They told us they ordinarily sold for over $700. Buyer beware -- I wish I had spent five minutes with Google before buying it. I immediately found about ten web sites with very negative reviews. I cannot get this thing to do anything. TGM Digital refuses to refund my money -- "All sales are final." They sent me a UPS shipping label to return the camera for repairs after two phone calls. They had the same slick presentation and lab coats that other buyers describe at other conventions. They are very good at what they do and have a very convincing pitch. I cannot tell what kind of pictures it takes because it remains stone dead -- apparently the battery does not charge. The manual is no help. I am contacting the CA state and SF consumer protection agencies, plus letting APA know that they let in a vendor to prey on their members. The Supacam DVi is pure junk -- don't buy it.
