Enpirion adds 9&6A parts to its dc-dc PSIP family

July 13, 2009

Enpirion keeps raising the bar on its tiny power-supply-in-package (PSIP) dc-dc buck converters. The 6A EN5364QI and the 9A EN5394QI both have an input voltage range of 2.375V to 6.6V and fit into a 8 mm x 11 mm x 1.85 mm package, achieving up to 93% efficiency and a power density of 15W/cm2. An external resistor divider sets the output voltage to any user-defined value. The operating frequency is  4MHz with the ability to synchronize to an external system clock or other EN5364/94s.

(For comparison’s sake,  just about a year ago Enpirion introduced another 9A part, the EN5395QI, which fit in to a 10 x 12 x 1.85 mm package, and achieved about 11 W/cm2, also at up to 93% efficiency, and priced at $8.10 for quantities of 1000 parts.)

Like other Enpirion PSIP products, the EN5364/94 integrates power MOSFET switches, an inductor, gate drive, controller, and loop compensation in the 190 mm2 package, requiring as few as seven external resistors and capacitors. Pricing is $6.10 for the EN5364 and $7.50 for the EN5394 in quantities of 1000 parts.
