Research drives energy efficiency in hi-tech facilities

April 8, 2008

Reader Spencer Klein, who’s a staff physicist at Lawrence Berkeley National Laboratory (LBNL), read the recent EDN article Push for power efficiency forces changes in server-center hardware and software and reminded me that LBNL has done much of the groundbreaking research on ways to make datacenters more efficient. He’s absolutely right: Check out LBNL’s work on improving datacenter efficiency at this link http://hightech.lbl.gov/datacenters.html, which details the lab’s work on characterizing baseline energy use, benchmarking and best-practices, and investigations into dc power architecture for datacenters.
