Airports, schools can use next-gen hand-held fever screening devices

June 9, 2009

The next wave of IR screening devices is already appearing on the market. This post showed a first-generation IR screener at the Hong Kong airport, which dates back to the SRAS outbreaks of a few years ago.

Wahl fever scannersHere’s  a line of fever screening devices that automatically detect the hottest temperature on a subject, and give off audible and visible alarms for an elevated temperature. The devices range from a hand- held infrared thermometer or a thermal imaging camera, to a high resolution thermal imaging system. From Wahl Instruments.

Here’s a repeat of the Hong Kong IR scanners as a size comapison:

Yikes! - you could use some temeperature lowering medicine. Are you reading an article, or looking for misspellings? If you are an English techer, you would probably not understand an article anyhow,so chill up a bit and don't hurt people. Interesting article Margery - reminds me a bit a movie "9 monkeys" and some short Sci-Fi movie series.I think that it will not hurt , but a judgement of allowing a passenger on a plane should be in hands of a physician ,not a clerk , I hope.Unfortunately because of possibility of real pandemic we need to take some precautions.
