Smart antenna design book available in free ebook format

Hindawi Publishing sent out an announcement that several of the books in their EURASIP Series on Signal Processing and Communications are available for download in a free ebook (pdf) format. These books cost in the $150 range in hardback so this is a good way to browse the book before you pony up for a hard copy version. The link worked fine for me first thing this morning, but seems to be spotty now. Keep trying – it’s still there, as far as I know.

As you might infer from the series title, there’s a strong European slant to the information. Here’s a short abstract on the book I downloaded: Smart Antennas: State of the Art – “This book brings together the broad expertise of 41European experts in smart antennas. They provide a comprehensive review and an extensive analysis of the recent progress and new results generated during the last years in almost all fields of smart antennas and MIMO (multiple-input multiple-output) transmission.”

This free ebook distribution method reminds me of the way that the excellent DSP book, The Scientist’s and Engineer’s Guide to Digital Signal Processing (Smith) was originally published. The author made it freely available on his website, and as readers offered suggestions/corrections he tweaked the copy, and offered the relatively final version for sale in hard copy. It worked for me: I bought a print version for ease of reference despite also having access to the free version.
