If you're waiting on digital power, you're backing up says Darnell Group
The Darnell Group, a market research and publishing firm covering power electronics, released its most recent findings on digital vs. analog power supply controller pricing, and states that digital power has started to reach price parity with analog controllers. Darnell predicts that digital controllers will cost less than analog controllers by the end of 2008. So not only will digital power enable cost savings at the system level due to increased energy efficiency, but dropping parts costs will make the BOM for digital power control lower than the equivalent for analog control. Expect to see digital power working its way into all but the most basic power supplies by the end of the decade.
