Apple’s cool new batteries are (probably) Sanyo’s Eneloops
August 12, 2010
Last week adafruit’s website was speculating that Apple’s rechagable batteries were Sanyo’s Eneloop brand re-labeled with that Apple cachet that people are so willing to pay a premium for. Now Engadget is reporting on a Czech site that did a teardown of the battery, looking for tell-tale Sanyo labels. Which they didn’t find, but regardless, everyone seems to agree they’re Eneloops. [Thanks, Brian.]

Sanyo is by far the largest producer of cylindrical nickel cells in the world, and tops in capacity and quality, especially since they merged with their lead competitor, Panasonic. There really isn't anyone else it would make sense for Apple to use unless they were trying to shave costs.
