Set your Tivos: Bikers break through an Intel wafer
Those of you who have been reading the electronic supply chain section of EDN magazine, saw the latest issue’s story “Start-up customers: diamonds in the rough” based on Avnet’s partnership with start-up Black Diamond Advanced Technology.
In the story, I mention how Avnet introduces Black Diamond to Intel, and from there Black Diamond saw its technology used in an Intel-commissioned motorcycle for an episode of American Chopper on cable channel TLC.
For those executives and EEs out there who are biker buffs, Orange County Chopper (OCC) fans, or for those of you who would like to see an Intel wafer destroyed, the episode is on tomorrow night, starting at 9 pm eastern.
Here’s the description TLC gives on its Web site:
“OCC dresses up and enters the high-tech world of embedded technology as they build a custom chopper for the Intel Corporation. With an onboard computer and a V Quad motor, the guys are faced with new challenges that stretch their bike building skills.”
If you’ve never seen the show, it revolves around this father, Senior, and his two sons, Junior and Mikey, who run a motorcycle garage. Intel showed off the bike with their help at the San Jose Embedded Systems Conference last year during a keynote — one that attracted just as many leather-jacket clad attendees as those that were suit-jacket clad. I remember standing on the entrance line and chatting with a guy about his back tattoos. But, I digress.
If you aren’t into bikes, but could use a bit of a pre-Halloween shock, watch the episode. The guys, known for being destructive, bust right through an Intel wafer.
Also, check out the Black Diamond site about the bike. It’s a fun distraction.
