Webcast: Focus on Phase Change Memory

November 17, 2009

Join us this Thursday (11/19/09) for a live Phase Change Memory Webcast. Learn about this new technology, what it delivers and how it is different from flash memory. In this webcast, Numonyx Phase Change Memory expert Cliff Smith will discuss this technology concept that has been around since the 1970’s and how it has been perfected to be positioned as the new breakthrough memory technology. Bob Merritt, Co-Founder and Partner of Convergent Semiconductors will also join the conversation and answer your questions.

Will it be possible to introduce a slide as part of the PCM webcast focus/debate. I have been exploring the relationship between current density, electromigration in PCM structures, and its likely impact on sub 50nm scaling. I was invited to present this work as part of a paper at NVMTS2009. Sadly my travel plans did not work out. My work includes analysis of results from a number of sources. The title of the paper was "PCM Scaling-a Myth or Practical Device Reality" My credentuals, I was the developer of the first thin film amorphous semiconductor memory device while working at ECD. I was also one of the co- authors with Gordon Moore of Intel of the now often quoted "Electronics" paper. As well as working on PCM at Harris Semiconductor I have been involved in work on a number of one-time programmable via structure programs since that time. While one of your experts may be able to claim 30years experience I can claim 40! Much of it involved with programmable devices. The key results can be summarised in a couple of slides that could be used by way of questions. With satisfactory answers to these questions I think all that stands in the way of PCM success is time and money. Thank you for your consideration. Ronald G Neale CPhys MInstP London
