IAR Systems, Micrium to expand software tool alliance

Focus for development alliance will be on ARM Cortex family

IAR Systems Software Inc. and Micrium Inc. will expand their development relationship in 32-bit embedded designs.  IAR, a leader in development and debugging tools, will work with Micrium, originators of the uC/OS-II RTOS, on high-end control designs in embedded markets, focusing on the ARM Cortex family.

The summer and fall have seen a big leap in ARM interest, capped off by the Oct. 21 ARM TechCon3 conference, and exemplified by many new licensees and a host of new OEM designs in smartbook and smartphone applications.  IAR and Micrium officials say the advent of multicore Cortex A9 MPCore, as well as the low-end Cortex A5, underscore the need for more embedded tools for complex 32-bit designs.
