Rocket scientists make giant Rube Goldberg machine
Fellow eFlea aficionado and Brocade good ol’ boy Rob Bowers tipped me off about this huge Rube Goldberg machine designed and built with the help of a few JPL (Jet Propulsion Laboratories) employees. Turn down the volume on your sound card, they may be clever but they sure don’t know what 0dB or 1VU is, the audio is sadly over-saturated and that is a shame since this is a music video, the Rube Goldberg contraption is just eye candy promotion for the band. Rob also sent along a companion article from NASA about the setup. Also note the write-up in the YouTube video links to this page that lets you examine the setup.
This is nice, but all derivative of the ground-breaking Honda Commercial, the one they played for a Honda executive and he said “It’s amazing what they can do with computer graphics” And they had to explain that this was real, although I am told if you look very carefully, you can see that it is two takes- there is a transition in the middle. I fond the Honda at far more artistic than the JPL one, but artists did the Honda and and engineers did the music video, so that’s what you would expect.
I am always glad to give a shout-out to the JPL rocket scientists, ever since my old 2007 blog post where I told you about a real job you could get as a rocket scientist there.
