Throwing the switch on IPv6

It's World IPv6 Day. Actually, it’s a bigger deal than you might think. According to the Internet Society, organizer of the event, ISPs participating in the World IPv6 Launch are providing for a minimum of 1% of their wireline residential subscribers to use IPv6. 

Committed ISPs include:

  • AT&T
  • Comcast
  • Free Telecom
  • Internode
  • KDDI
  • Time Warner Cable
  • XS4ALL

Network equipment manufacturers that will enable IPv6 by default through the range of their home router products by the big day include:

  • Cisco
  • D-Link

Web companies participating in the launch that will enable IPv6 on their main websites permanently beginning on launch date include:

  • Facebook
  • Google
  • Microsoft Bing
  • Yahoo

Finally, enabling IPv6 through their infrastructure are content delivery network providers Akamai and Limelight.
