Wireless power company eCoupled buys Splashpower
Margery Conner - May 6, 2008
US wireless company eCoupled purchased the assets of UK-based wireless company Splashpower. The assets were purchased “out of Adminsitration,” which according to the Slashdot link, means Splashpower was in bankruptcy.
eCoupled was exhibiting in January at CES. Below are some photos I took at the show of eCoupled’s demos. The first one demos how wireless charging of a cell phone or MP3 player might take place in a special bay in your car.
The next two show light bulbs, with wireless power adapters, next to and then in the power station. One thing to keep in mind about wireless power is that in this age of expensive energy you are trading off an efficient power transmission medium (wire) for the possible convenience of inefficient wireless power.
An interesting aside: eCoupled is owned by Fulton Innovation, which is
owned by Alticor, which is the parent company formed in 2000 that owns Amway.
