Dating advice for women engineers
Suzanne Deffree - July 12, 2012
Last week, EDN’s Serious Fun blog ran a post on “Dating advice for engineers” and a funny video targeted at male engineers to go with it. My favorite line from the video was: “The first rule of dating is to be yourself -- That’s not going to work for you.”
I was glad to see our audience chuckling along with the video on our site and on the likes of social sites like Twitter, as well.
I was especially happy to come across this post on Engineer Blogs by “Cherish The Scientist,” a woman engineer who is married to an engineer and who shared her dating advice for women engineers after seeing our post.
Jewels like “Ignore any guy who says that female engineers are unattractive. He’s just bitter because he can’t find a date” and “if you’re dating an engineer, don’t worry about your clothes” sparkle through her post. (The t-shirt to the right can be found here, by the way.)
If I may add one more to the list Cherish The Scientist posted, it would be to simply be yourselves, contrary to the above noted line from the video. People with the personality strengths to become engineers, and in this post we are specifically talking about women engineers, are rare finds -- not Big Foot rare like the video jests -- but rare like diamonds. So sisters of the engineering professions, shine on with your smarts and humor and slide rules.
But then again, what do I know about dating? I’ve been happily married for a long time. For those still in the dating pool (or those who would like a chuckle), read what Cherish The Scientist had to say here, enjoy, and share your thoughts on dating as an engineer below.
