5 Engineers: What’s your favorite joke about engineers?
In our most recent 5 Engineers post — part of this blog and our Fun Friday newsletter, where we toss out a question and invite our audience to respond with their wittiest answers — we asked: If you could be the parent of any famous scientist or engineer, who would it be? Visit this page to share your own answer to that question.
This week, I'm a bit burnt out. It’s been a long one. I need a pick-me-up, a little chuckle, something to get the weekend started. So today's question is a lighthearted one: What’s your favorite joke for or about engineers?
What gives you a chuckle when you take a look at our world of engineering? The smartest people in this world are also the funniest, so I'm looking forward to the witty answers you'll share.
My current personal favorite is “The Engineer and the Red Rubber Ball,” found on this site.
Post your short answers below. Be sure to stay tuned to this blog for more 5 Engineers questions in the weeks to come.
UPDATE, June 29, 2012: You folks are hysterical. We’ve been laughing all week thanks to your jokes. They are so funny that we’ve decided to turn this blog post into an open contest for our audience.
Post a joke to this blog’s comments section below by 11:59pm pacific time, on Thursday July 5, 2012, to enter. If you’ve already posted a joke, consider it entered. Post as many jokes as you’d like.
On Friday, July 6, EDN will pick 5 winners. We’ll promote the 5 jokes and send their authors a gift card, plus a certificate that proves they are a “certifiably funny” engineer.
When considering winners, we’ll be looking for a good chuckle, so keep them coming. We’ll also be watching to see how many people comment on the jokes, so keep commenting on the ones you like.
Good luck and thanks for the laughs!
UPDATE: July 6, 2012: Read the 5 we selected here. It was hard to pick just 5! The contest may be over but keep the jokes coming. They prove that engineers aren't just some of the smartest folks around, but the funniest as well.
