Tektronix increases network test tool’s media load capacity

-August 14, 2013

The Spectra2 XL3 from Tektronix Communications, a platform for testing EPC (evolved packet core) and IMS (IP multimedia subsystem) elements for mobile LTE and fixed IP networks, now delivers media test capacity in excess of 400,000 simultaneous, bidirectional G.711 IP-based calls in a single 2U rack.
According to the manufacturer, the high-performance media test mode offers significant savings for test labs and a substantially reduced physical hardware footprint.

“Spectra2 XL3 is addressing a crucial industry pain point for core network testing with 10G interface rates at the best possible price performance ratio,” said Olga Shapiro, program manager, Frost & Sullivan. “Spectra2’s software-only edition is very attractive for customers with unique lab build-out plans using off-the-shelf hardware. This diversified product line gives customers the flexibility and performance quality to meet their shrinking test lab budgets.”

XL3 is a third-generation hardware platform that hosts the Spectra2 IMS and EPC test application. It is capable of performing Diameter, VoIP/TDM, and media testing, generating simultaneous streams on the IMS core of close to a million messages/second, and on the RTP side, close to half a million calls.
