Ceramic chip capacitors are safety-certified

-September 25, 2013

Offered with C0G (NP0) and X7R dielectrics, multilayer ceramic chip capacitors in the VJ Safety series from Vishay Intertechnology provide X1/Y2 and X2 safety classifications and 250-VAC voltage ratings. The devices are optimized for EMI and AC line filtering, as well as lightning-strike and voltage-surge protection in power supplies, battery chargers, and isolators for fax machines, telephones, modems, routers, and AC equipment and appliances.

VJ Safety capacitors with a C0G (NP0) dielectric cover a capacitance range of 10 pF to 1.0 nF, with a temperature coefficient of capacitance (TCC) of 0 ppm/°C ± 30 ppm/°C from –55°C to +125°C and an aging rate of 0 % maximum per decade. If higher capacitance values are needed, X7R devices provide capacitance to 12 nF, TCC of ±15% from –55°C to +125°C with 0 VDC applied, and an aging rate of 1 % maximum per decade. Capacitors with X1/Y2 and X2 safety classifications handle peak impulse voltages of 5000 V and 2500 V, respectively.

Packaging options for the devices include 2008, 2012, and 2220 case sizes with low profiles. Samples and production quantities of the VJ Safety series capacitors are available now, with lead times from 16 to 18 weeks.
