DC/DC converters meet RF power-amplifier requirements

-October 03, 2014

Two families of fully regulated DC/DC converters, the AVO100 and AVO250 series from Artesyn Embedded Technologies deliver power output up to 100 W and 250 W, respectively, to supply high-density, low-power radio power-amplifier applications, particularly small-cell systems. These single-output units also have a wide output voltage range specified between 18 V and 32.5 V.

The converters accept the telecommunication standard input range of 36 V to 75 V. Efficiency of 93% and good thermal performance over an operating temperature range of -40°C to +85°C make the AVO100 and AVO250 useful for wireless communications.

Both converter series are protected against over-current, over-temperature, and over-voltage conditions. In addition, the devices have an enable pin on the primary side, plus remote-sense features and an output-voltage adjust function on the secondary side. The converters are offered in open-frame and baseplate versions in the industry-standard eighth-brick outline and pin configuration. Dimensions are 57.9×22.9×10.0 mm (2.28×0.9×0.304 in.). All versions are fitted with through-hole terminations.
