Regulator complies with CISPR 22 Class B

Linear Technology’s LTM8073 step-down regulator operates from unregulated or fluctuating 24V to 48V input supplies in noisy environments. Its Silent Switcher architecture minimizes EMC/EMI emissions, enabling the device to meet CISPR 22 Class B requirements for use in signal processing applications, such as imaging and RF systems.

The output voltage of the LTM8073 µModule regulator is adjustable from 0.8V to 15V using a single resistor. This wide output range allows the regulator to generate common system bus voltages of 3.3V, 5V, 12V, and 15V. The part delivers 3A of output current at up to 85°C ambient without a heat sink or airflow, while paralleling two or more LTM8073s via a share pin produces higher currents. Efficiency at 24 VIN to 5 VOUT at 3A is 90%.

Housed in a 6.25×9×3.32 mm BGA package, the µModule integrates a switching regulator controller, power switches, inductor, and other supporting components. Only input and output filter capacitors and a few small resistors are required to complete the design. Switching frequency ranges from 200 kHz to 3 MHz. The regulator operates over a temperature range of -40°C to +125°C.
