LED module packs big candela punch

-August 01, 2017

Based on Plessey’s Stellar beam-forming optics, the Orion PLWS3000C series of LED lighting modules delivers high center-beam intensity from a module with a thickness of just 5.6 mm. For example, the 3000 lumen Orion module boasts a center-beam intensity of 7200 candelas compared to COB (chip-on-board) LED modules that provide 5900 candelas, albeit from a 5500 lumen package.

Orion modules employ GaN-on-Si LEDs teamed with miniature beam-forming optics to produce even beams with no multiple shadows or color inconsistency. These super-slim modules also offer improved thermal resistance at 1°C/W, which allows the use of slimmer heat sinks. Orion can be mounted behind a bezel or plate of any color to conceal the unit without suffering light losses.

Orion LED modules are well-suited for a variety of directional lighting applications, including spotlights, industrial luminaires, and architectural luminaires. Modules offer a choice of beam angles (60°, 25°, and 15°) in warm white, neutral white, and cool white, as well as CCTs (color correlated temperatures) of 2700K, 3000K, 4000K, and 5000K.

According to the manufacturer, Orion PLWS3000C modules cost about $0.97 per center-beam candela.
