The 65-nm low-cost Cyclone III family is a low-power, high-functionality FPGA family targeting cost-sensitive high-volume applications. The Cyclone III FPGA family consists of eight family members ranging from 5000 to 120,000 logic elements, offering up to 4 Mbits of memory and up to 288 DSP multipliers, available in a range of low-cost packages.

Cyclone III enables low power implementation of signal processing functions in wireless, display, SDR and video applications that use its dedicated DSP functionality. The Quartus II software version 7.0 supports the entire 65-nm Cyclone III FPGA family in both its Subscription Edition and free Web Edition.
The Cyclone III family's multipliers can deliver up to 260 MHz of performance for high-bandwidth parallel processing applications compared to 216 MHz in the Cyclone II devices. Cyclone III devices have a 60% higher multiplier-to-logic ratio on average, and greater than twice the multiplier-to-logic ratio in the midrange densities (15,000 to 60,000), the "sweet spot" for many DSP-intensive applications.
