Fairchild Powers Up A New CFO
Power management chipmaker Fairchild Semiconductor has appointed a new CFO, Mark Frey, who joins the company from his previous role as VP of finance and corporate controller for Lam Research Corp. In his new position, Frey will report directly to Mark Thompson, who moved into the role as Fairchild’s president and CEO about a year ago, replacing Kirk Pond. For the full story, click here.
Coaxsys Calls in New VP
Coaxsys Inc., an IPTV and multimedia networking player, has named Ali Taslimi as the company’s VP of corporate development. With more than twenty years of telecommunications experience at the likes of AT&T Bell Laboratories and Lucent, Taslimi is slated to lead the company’s TVnet integration and partnership efforts. He also holds a series of triple-play-oriented patents focused on high-bandwidth applications such as video distribution.
Managing Miniaturization
Tessera Technologies Inc., a provider of miniaturization technologies for the electronics industry, appointed Mike Bereziuk as executive VP of the product division, which includes Tessera's product miniaturization division in San Jose and Tessera's wafer-level packaging center, recently acquired from Shellcase Ltd. in Israel. Bereziuk, who spent the majority of his career at National Semiconductor Corp., will be reporting to Chairman, President and CEO Bruce McWilliams. Nicholas Colella, former senior VP of the product miniaturization division, will continue to report to McWilliams in his new role as senior VP, corporate strategy.
Etching Out a VP
Aviza Technology Inc., a supplier of equipment and process technologies, has placed Kevin T. Crofton as VP and general manager of the company's PVD/CVD/etch business unit. In addition, he will be overseeing Aviza's Newport operations. Crofton will report directly to Aviza President and CEO Jerry Cutini. His 13 years of experience count employers such as Lam Research, Newport Corp. and most recently NEXX Systems.

Founder Makes Tracks
Wilfred Corrigan has notified LSI Logic that he will not stand for re-election to the board of directors at the company’s next annual stockholder’s meeting to be held in May. Corrigan founded LSI Logic in 1981 and currently serves as the chairman of the board. There’s no bad blood between the company and Corrigan, though, as his decision was anticipated by LSI Logic. Renesas Reshuffles
Renesas Technology has appointed Satoru Ito, previously president and CEO, to the positions of chairman and CEO, one of several management changes the company announced this week. Katsuhiro Tsukamoto, who currently serves as executive VP, will move into the roles of president and COO. Yasuhiko Fukuda, executive VP and board director, and Katsumi Suizu, senior VP and board director, will retire from their current positions March 31. Joining the board as of April 1 are Yutaka Funada, Koji Yamanaka and Tadashi Nishimura. Finally, Toshio Nohara will be appointed to the post of corporate auditor. For the full story, click here.
Agere Exec Agrees with Freescale
Procuring executives from Agere seems to agree with Freescale Semiconductor. The company this week named Tom Linton as VP and chief procurement officer. Linton was most recently Agere’s chief procurement officer. Prior to that, he spent 20 years at IBM. Linton will be based in Singapore to be closer to Freescale’s major foundry partners and assembly and test operations. For the full story, click here.
ADI Powers Up
Analog Devices Inc. has claimed analog industry veteran, Peter Henry, as its VP responsible for power management operations. Henry joins ADI from National Semiconductor where, as the VP for the portable power systems product line, he was responsible for business strategy and product development for portable and wireless devices.
Shifting Seats
Matsushita Electric Industrial’s current President Kunio Nakamura will become the chairman of the board, while the current Senior Managing Director Fumio Ohtsubo will become president. Yoichi Morishita, chairman of the board, will be named executive advisor. Susumu Koike, senior managing director in charge of technology and semiconductors, was promoted to executive VP of the semiconductor business. For the full story, click here.
Set 300 More Seats at the ST Table
STMicroelectronics will get 300 new employees by the end of year. The company has inaugurated its new design and development facility in Greater Noida, India, with plans to recruit the engineers by the end of 2006 for the plant. The employees will have plenty of room to spread out as the plant is set on a 100,000-square meter area with a capacity for 5,000 employees. For the full story, click here.

For the week of February 13, 2006 New Company Needs New Head
Infineon Technologies CEO Wolfgang Ziebart confirmed this week that the company’s memory business is heading toward a full-scale IPO and said Kin Wah Loh will be at the helm. Loh, a member of Infineon’s management board and currently responsible for memory products, is expected to run the separate memory company affective July 1. For the full story, click here.
There’s More Changing Than Just RoHS
IPC – Association Connecting Electronics Industries, an industry group concerned with environmental compliance and the upcoming Restriction of Hazardous Substances directive, shook this up this week, announcing the election of a new board chairman, vice chairman and secretary/treasurer. Jim Herring, president and CEO of Circuit Service Inc., took the chairman seat; Mike Buscher, president of Assembléon America, took vice chairman; and Paul Langston, CEO of Coretec, took secretary/treasurer. The officers, along with nine new directors, will serve through Dec. 31, 2007, taking the industry group through the RoHS July 1 deadline this year.
Litho Leadership
Luminescent Technologies bolstered its leadership team by naming former Applied Materials executive, Moris Kori, as executive VP. The litho player said it tapped Kori to drive its Inverse Lithography Technology to market leadership. In his 15 years at AMAT, Kori held a number of leadership positions, including corporate VP and general manager of the company’s mask lithography and inspection product group and VP and general manager of its CVD metal interconnect and integrated liner/barrier product groups.
New Prez at Industry Group
The Optoelectronics Industry Development Association (OIDA) saw Arpad Bergh retire as president effective today. OIDA's board of directors elected Michael S. Lebby, executive director, to succeed Bergh. Bergh, a co-founder of the industry group and life fellow of the IEEE, will continue at OIDA as president emeritus.

That Seat Won’t Get Cold
Robert K. Eulau, VP and CFO, will resign from Rambus effective March 2 to pursue another opportunity, the company announced this week. Flash Forward From IPO to No CFO
Spansion, the flash joint venture between AMD and Fujitsu that was spun off in an IPO last December, has seen its CFO and chief administration officer resign. CFO Steve Geiser has been replaced on an interim basis by Eric Branderiz, VP and corporate controller, while Spansion looks for a new CFO. James Doran, formerly executive VP of worldwide operations, becomes COO. Doran, together with Shinji Suzuki, president of Spansion Japan, will join with Spansion's CEO Bertrand Cambou in comprising an “office of the CEO.” For our full story, click here.
PC Guru Lands in WLAN
Wireless player Airgo Networks added a seventh member to its board, George Carl Everett, Jr. Everett is a former senior VP of Dell’s personal systems group. Prior to Dell, the PC veteran enjoyed a 20-year career with Intel. Everett also serves as a member of the board of directors at FormFactor, Transitive and the University of New Mexico.
Playing Musical Chairs
Shifting its executives around, Micron Technology announced a new COO and several newly named VPs from within the company. Mark Durcan, the company's current CTO and VP of research and development, has been named the new COO. In addition to his responsibilities for research and development activities, Durcan will be responsible for the company's global operations. Brian Shirley, who previously held the role of DRAM design manager, has been appointed VP of memory. Jan du Preez, formerly VP of Micron's mobile memory group, will now serve as the VP of memory marketing. John Schreck, previously a design manager for Micron's mobile memory group, moves to the role of VP of DRAM development. And Frankie Roohparvar, previously in the role of senior director of flash memory design, transfers to the role of VP of NAND development. For our full story, click here.

Intel has said that employees of its newly acquired company, Conformative, don’t have to brush up their resumes.
