Number two foundry United Microelectronics Corp. (UMC) today reported sales results for October, showing a near 4% slide from its September numbers.
The $313 million (10.1 billion New Taiwanese dollars) in sales, however, showed a near 12% gain year-over-year and contributed to UMC’s January through October total sales of $2.76 billion (89.3 billion New Taiwanese dollars), helping to push the Taiwan-based company’s 10 month sales up 2.58% when compared to the same 2006 period.
Today’s numbers come on the heels of a solid Q3 report from UMC. The company in late October posted an 11.4 percent year-over-year and 23.6 percent sequentially increase in revenue of $952 million (31 billion New Taiwanese dollars), while net income rose 7.5 percent year-over-year and 88 percent sequentially to $283 million (9.23 billion NT).
UMC’s chief rival and foundry leader Taiwan Semiconductor Manufacturing Corp. (TSMC) has not yet reported results for October.
