AMD releases Phenom 9600 Black Edition

Advanced Micro Devices wished gamers happy holidays with its release of the Phenom 9600 Black Edition quad-core processor that contains clock multiplier control and allows tunable performance with the inclusion of AMD’s OverDrive performance tuning utility.

At the same time, AMD made sure to assert that it is not responsible for damages caused by overclocking, even when overclocking is enabled with its OverDrive software.

The Phenom 9600 Black Edition is priced the same as the recently launched AMD Phenom 9600 quad-core processor, and is meant to provide increased value and expanded customization options to end-users.

At the time the processors were announced as part of AMD’s Spider platform, pricing was as follows: AMD Phenom processors 9600 (2.3GHz) and 9500 (2.2GHz) are priced at $283 and $251 respectively in 1,000-unit pricing.

The company expects channel partners to develop customizable solutions to enhance the range of performance offerings for both mainstream and enthusiast end-users with this release meant to give gamers and sophisticated power users improved scalability and unprecedented customizable performance levels to run multiple processor-intensive applications simultaneously, AMD said.

The company also launched “AMD GAME! Wiki” at www.gamewiki.amd.com, which is meant to be a place for gaming enthusiasts to share, learn and create with users invited to share tips and tricks, post videos, show off gaming systems, and ask and answer questions.
