Our editors are now busily reviewing the scores of high-quality entries to determine the finalists, which will be announced both in print and online February 18, 2010. At that time we will invite our worldwide audience of engineers and engineering managers to vote for the winners in each category using an online ballot. Voting will last until March 19, and winners will be announced April 26 in San Jose, CA. We will publish a list of all winners in print and online May 13.

Details on past finalists, winners, and awards ceremonies:

Note: The dates above refer to the year eligible products hit the market. Like the Academy Awards telecast, the EDN Innovation Awards ceremony takes place early in the year following the year of eligibility.

Innovation background

The annual EDN Innovation Awards honor outstanding engineering professionals and products.

  • The Innovator of the Year award recognizes an electronics engineer or engineering team for innovation in product design or technical leadership.

  • The Innovation of the Year awards recognize unique, state-of-the-art electronics products in several categories.

Process and timeline

The EDN Innovation Awards carry special meaning because the winners are chosen by a jury of their peers.

First, EDN accepts nominations from the industry via this Web site. Though the exact dates vary from year to year, the nomination period normally runs from early fall until mid November.

Next, working in panels organized by area of expertise, EDN’s technical editors select the most deserving nominees as finalists.

Early in the new year, EDN publishes the names of the finalists and information about them both in print and on this site. EDN then invites its worldwide audience of engineers and engineering managers to vote using an online ballot. The voting period lasts about one month.

Finally, EDN uses a combination of these audience votes, balloting by the EDN Editorial Advisory Board, and voting by EDN’s editorial staff to determine the ultimate winners.

EDN presents the awards at a ceremony held the week of the Embedded Systems Conference (normally late March or early April).
