Job satisfaction and outlook
- 87% are satisfied with their engineering careers.
- Technical challenge, feeling of accomplishment, and salary are the top reasons for respondents’ job satisfaction.
- Chief concerns are keeping current with technology, job security, and management support.
- 75% of respondents’ companies are outsourcing some design work. However, the average company is outsourcing only 8% of such work, primarily in the areas of board-based design, test engineering, and power systems design.
- 73% of respondents’ companies have added engineers in the past 12 months. 89% of those new engineering jobs have been in the US, while the remaining 11% have been mainly in India (24%) and mainland China (20%).
- Respondents cite digital design, software development, and analog design as most important for getting ahead in their profession.
