Category: Mixed-Signal ASSPs
WINNER: LMH0340/LMH0341 serializer/deserializer (National Semiconductor)
National Semiconductor a decade ago developed LVDS (low-voltage-differential-signaling) technology to allow the video signals of laptop computers to travel over ribbon cables across the hinge of their displays. The company also defined the industry-standard Camera-Link specification for industrial-camera connection to video-capture cards. The company has used this extensive background in LVDS to provide an innovative approach to test equipment in TV-broadcast and –editing facilities. The LMH0340/LMH0341 serializer/deserializer operates over 75Ω coaxial cable rather than ribbon cable. By applying the LVDS technology from the deserializer to the host FPGA and by using cable-equalization techniques, these parts allow uncompressed transmission of 1080p60 signals over a single coaxial cable at 2.97 Gbps.
The LMH0340 and LMH0341 deliver industry-leading performance in jitter tolerance, jitter transfer, integration, flexibility, and physical size. Most important, they enable the broadcast equipment industry to develop systems that support transmission and processing of serial, uncompressed 1080p60 video signals.
