Finalist: LM5574/5/6 and LM25574/5/6 buck regulators (National Semiconductor)
 National Semiconductor’s LM5574/5/6 and LM25574/5/6 buck regulators integrate with the company’s Webench online-design tool. The tool provides a knob that allows users to indicate the trade-off between size and efficiency of their designs. Thus, less experienced designers can create a design with an optimally sized inductor and other components. In addition, the parts feature an emulated-current-mode architecture that provides better inherent line regulation, tight load-transient response, a short duty cycle, and simplified loop compensation. The integration with Webench gives these parts more design flexibility than—but just as easy to apply as—the company’s venerable Simple Switcher parts. The new devices’ 75V input range and operating frequency of as much as 1 MHz make them suitable to a broad range of designs.
